Tips, Tools & Techniques - Mending Jeans

Hello! Here's our regular feature where we share tips, tools & techniques that have caught our eye, things we have Pinned, and things we have tried. These are probably not going to change your life(!) but might make it a bit easier...
I stopped Matt from throwing out his jeans with holes - confidently declaring that I could mend them! After realising that I had never actually patched a hole, they sat for a while (aka months!) before I turned to Pinterest for help and found a fab tutorial by Create Enjoy

The hole was too big to just sew together, so definitely needed patching.
Following Suzannah's advice, I cut a piece of iron on interfacing and ironed it on over the hole.
I then turned them the right way round and machine sewed over the area, by going around the edges first and then filling in the centre. I used my free motion foot as I found it was then easier to then go back and forward, without using the backstich button. I chose a light blue/grey thread which sort of matched the denim colour.
The stitching does show, but is not too obvious when they're worn. It's also a lot better than a big hole and saves throwing them away for a little bit!!
Do you have any tips for mending clothes? I need to be prepared for the next time I have to pretend I know what I'm doing!!

  3. This is a great tip!! TFS!! I also use the patch's they sell in Joann's and zigzag around the patch. I've also seen scraps of fabric if you don't mind it being noticeable. I'm stopping by from Sew Crafty Angel's linky party, a co-host and a new follower.
