We've been a bit absent recently. Sorry about that! Today I thought I'd share part of a project I'm working on - a fabric scrap book. I'm mixing up vintage materials with old pictures of skeletons and skulls and having a lovely old play with techniques such as machine embroidery, fabric printing, making embellishments etc. For one of the pages, I decided to have skull made of buttons as the focal point...
I traced a rough skull design onto some net fabric, cut it out and pinned it into place
And then played around with buttons to find the spread I liked
(Neither of these worked for me!!)
After lots of attempts trying out different sizes in differnt places, I began to sew the buttons directly over the net
And here's the finished skull. I decided to cut out the teeth part as using buttons for teeth was not working... I also trimmed away most of the excess net but didn't stress too much about the bits left showing...
The page needs more work with embellishments etc. I'm going to use this book to try out lots of new techniques and will share more pages as they're done (if they're any good!)
Have you ever made a fabric sketch/scrap book? I've become obsessed with looking at pictures and videos of all the talented people's work out there. Its soooooo inspiring!
