... and a DIY Scarf Hanger

I hadn't realised until a recent sort out quite how many scarves I had! Some of these have moved their way into my fabric stash and others to the charity shop... but the others still needed somewhere to live so I made a scarf hanger!
I've seen various scarf storage solutions using hangers and plastic shower rings, but I wanted to keep it all wooden to match the rest of my wardrobe hangers. So I took a wooden hanger and pulled the bottom part off on one side (these were cheap hangers, so came apart very easily!)
For the loops I used some spare wooden curtain rings, slid them on and then fixed the hanger back together with some all purpose glue. [I actually changed my mind and used white hoops, but forgot to take a photo!]
To make the hanger look pretty I decorated with napkins using a decoupage technique. The napkins aren't my usual style or colours, but I actually really like the finished effect!
Once the decoupage had dried, I finished with a thin layer of clear matte varnish.....
..... added the scarfs.... and that's all there is to it!
I used 10 hoops, which is handy as I've still got loads a couple of scarves left to sort out! I may even need to make another hanger for them all!
This was a really easy project, but a great way to organise scarves in a small space. Now that I can see them all, I'm also hoping it will make it easier to find the one I want!!

  4. Wow, thanks for such a great idea, and the tutorial. I also have quite a hoard of scarves, and they seem to be dotted all round the house. This idea will definitely go on my to do list! Did you use just normal paper napkins? and what kind of glue?? xx

    1. Thank you! They were just normal paper napkins and I used PVA glue thinned down with a bit of water. Modge Podge would work well too :) x
