... and a Quilted Make Up Bag

We're well into the New Year now and Christmas seems like a long time ago! But I still thought I'd share with you a quilted make up bag I made as a little pressie...

Materials:
  • Fabric (4 pieces of 9.5" x 9.5")
  • Quilt Batting (2 pieces of 9.5" x 9.5"
  • 8" zip
  • Sewing Materials
  • Decoration of choice
I'm afraid I forgot to take photos, but I followed the same process as the Make Up Bag I made before (so I won't repeat the instructions here!)

The only addition to this bag was that I quilted the outside pieces of fabric. This was my very first attempt at quilting.... so I'm not sure if I actually did it right?! But I pinned the outside flowery fabric to the batting and then used machine free motion to create a 'wavy' pattern. I used a cream thread as I didn't want it to stand out too much (and also hide any mistakes!)
Another slight change was that I decided to give boxed corners a go. So after sewing everything together, I folded the outside layer so the side and bottom seams lined up, measured 1.5" from the edge and sewed straight across. I repeated for the other side and also the lining.
I was pleased with the way this turned out, especially as it was my first attempt at quilting! It was a pressie for my brother's girlfriend, Alice and was the perfect size for some miniature Cath Kitson smellies.
