... and an Upcycled Boot Planter

When Matt said he was thinking of getting some new work boots, I immediately started thinking about what I could do with the old ones! I managed to grab them before they ended up in the bin.... to use as a plant pot of course!
I started with the pair of boots....
... removed the insoles...
... and drilled some holes in the bottom for drainage. Depending on the type of boot/sole you may be able to skip this, especially if there are already holes in it!
Next step was to fill it with compost and then add the plants. I chose a mix of bedding plants, including white geranium, french marigolds and trailing lobelia. The plan is that these will give a nice mix of colour and heights.
Give it a good water and you're done! This was such a quick project but adds a bit of interest and fun amongst my other pots.
At the moment, the boot still looks a bit new, but I reckon after being outside for a while it will start to blend in. I've also still got the other boot to use.... any ideas on what to plant in it?!

  1. I did this years ago with some similar red boots and hung them on a fence from their laces.
they lasted for years and had trailing perennials in. Yours look great and yes they do weather fabulously!

  6. Aww what a fun idea! It will look even better once the plants have matured too. I've gone through so many welly boots i always mean to use the old ones as planters but never seem to get round to it! :)

  8. I love this, I wish now I'd kept my sons old wellies as he grew out of them instead of handing them on to my sister for her kids.

    1. I'm sure your sister's kids appreciated the wellies! Maybe you could ask for them back once they've outgrown them ;) x
