... and a Comic Book Bracelet

We are comic book geeks in our house. Unfortunately at 4 years old, Mally isn't always great at keeping them in pristine condition(!) so we end up with lots of loose pages. Luckily there are lots of things we can do with these - like covering up an old charity shop wooden bracelet!
I found the bracelet in a local charity shop for 20p. Bargain! I knew straight away what I wanted to do with it!
The technique is the same I used for the Photo Frames. I also used some tips from this post by The Organic Heretic, but I made a few changes as you will see. I took some of Mally's old comics that were falling apart and cut out some of the interesting bits (keeping in mind the size of the bracelet).

Then, I started to stick them on.
Now this may be controversial, but I used a glue stick... The bracelet, being wooden, took the glue really well and as the pieces were so small, it was a lot less fiddly then PVA would have been. A little tip is to cut some plainer pieces to fill up the background, and then you can add the detail afterwards. As this bracelet is quite rounded, I had to ensure that I smoothed over the creases as much as possible. It was pretty tricky but I got there in the end. I added some long, thin details on the inside to give it a polished look! Finally I added several coats of varnish which sealed the whole thing together, and toughened it up lots...
Mally's Granno gave him this decoupaged Spider-Man box when he was tiny. As I don't think he will be able to look after it, I think I should steal it for my jewellery creations!!! Is that OK?!
PS. Forgive the photography. We will be making some light boxes soon (and definitely before Autumn kicks in!)

  4. Love it, controversial or not. I use glue sticks on my paper beads, but once everything is covered with varnish it's not going anywhere anyway! Thanks for sharing with the Upcycled Linky Party at http://love2upcycle.blogspot.com/2013/08/upcycled-linky-party-21.html

    1. Thanks, I think PVA would definitely seal it etc like varnish but it would have been much more fiddly and messy (I'm VERY messy!!!)xx
