... and Gift Bag Transformations!

We were delighted to be asked recently by Carrier Bag Shop to review and transform some of their gift paper bags by adding our own crafty twist to them*! With all the gifts we've been making, and because we are hoping to enter the scary world of selling our items soon, we thought it would be a great opportunity to try a variety of styles of packaging them...
* DISCLOSURE - we were given one of each of the bags below for the purposes of this review. All opinions are our own.

These were the products we selected (click on each photo to take you to the web page).
Frosty Plain Plastic Bag

Natural Jute Bag
Recycled Brown Paper Bag
Yellow Rope Gift Bag

Here's our transformed versions....
We decorated the small yellow bag with one of our Peg Doll creations (watch this space for our post on how we made these!!). The bag has some lovely subtle, floral detailing as a nice background for the doll, which is simply attached with some wool so that it can be removed and become part of the gift.
For the brown paper bag we chose some vintage Laura Ashley fabric and machine stitched a heart design. Strips of the same fabric were wrapped around the handles. We think this could fit well into a wedding theme - either as a gift bag or for wedding favours. It would also be great packaging to offer to customers buying from you at craft fairs.
We had fun decorating the clear plastic bag using paint swatches and two types of flower punch. These were then glued onto the bag. This would make a bright and fun gift bag, and you could easily get your kids to decorate it for their friends!
We gave the jute bag a seashore theme by creating a cross stitch pattern to add a starfish design. Beige, pink and white floss was used (2 strands of each)  to match the bag handles. This would be ideal for a daily tote bag, and of course a trip to the beach. We think it would make a lovely present in itself!

We really enjoyed designing and decorating these bags, and have lots of ideas now for when we give gifts in the future! Thanks to Carrier Bag Shop for the opportunity to review their products and for providing the fab bags. We certainly will use them again especially as they offer such an enormous range!

  2. I love the way you've jazzed up the bags. I think my favourite has to be the heart bag with the covered handles.
