The workshop was run by the lovely Caroline Marriott and she brought a selection of wools for us to use - which was exciting in itself! Caroline then talked us through the process of making a brooch using a rag rug technique.
The idea is to pull the wool from the back, through the hessian using a hooky tool (like a pointed crochet hook). We drew a circle to act as a guide and then worked from the outside in, swapping colours for each circle.
We sewed felt and a fastening to the back... and there was our finished brooch!
Caroline recommended that any type of wool or soft fabric (e.g. t shirts) are suitable to use. You could let your imagination run wild with different colours and patterns. Think we'll be rustling up a couple more to give as Christmas presents!
We had a fantastic time learning this new technique and it's officially our new favourite craft!! Thanks for the inspiration and a great workshop Caroline!
Oh and by the was 2 years ago that we bought the Weaving Stick Dollies Kit from Caroline at a Christmas Craft Fair. Think we'll be back for more of her offerings in the future too!!
What a fun little project, and so good to use up scrappy bits and save them from the bin!
