... and a Visit to the Spring Knitting and Stitching Show

We were super excited about the thought of visiting the Spring Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia, London.... and when we visited yesterday, our expectations were more than met!!
There were loads of great stands with lots of lovely things for us to buy and we couldn't resist picking up the odd bargain! We both chose some lovely fabric paints, which we can't wait to try out so look out for a post using them coming soon!

As well as the stands, there were some great exhibitions to get inspiration from...

Contemporary Quilt Exhibition -‘Contemporary Quilt’ is a specialist group of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles comprising over 700 members. A diverse group of quilters and fabric artists working at the cutting edge of quilting to create innovative and dynamic art, moving away from the traditional idea of the quilt as a functional item.

Rainforest by Barbara Weeks
Kingdom of the Red Lion Fish by Natalia Manley
Floating City - Daytime by Alicia Merrett
Underground 150 by Jan Valentine
Change by Julie Mackinder
Washday Blues by Gillian Travis
New Horizons by Ann Louise Williams
Added Mustard by Christine Seager

SILKFELT Collective Mermaid Project - Body image and modification or what we’ll do for love… The story of the Little Mermaid resonates with contemporary concerns and fantasies around body image, in a superficial world where so-called 'perfection' is sought but proves to be an unattainable ideal - despite the pain of fad dieting, uncomfortable clothing and cosmetic surgery. Silk Felt Collective addresses all these themes via the metaphor of the Little Mermaid story.
We also managed to fit in a couple of museum visits during our trip to London. As we are both massive science geeks we loved the Surgical Exhibition at the Huntarian Museum...
.... and the Beautiful Science Exhibition at the British Library
We had a fantastic day out and would recommend the Knitting and Stitching Show to anyone who is able to visit. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for details of the next show! We'd also love to hear of any other shows and exhibitions that you'd recommend.
