... and a Stitched Textile Books Course

Jane Bonney is a fantastic local Textile Artist, who we first met on our Stained Glass Class last year. We've wanted to take part in one of her textile courses ever since, so when a date came up which we could make, we jumped at the chance to sign up!!
For our course we were asked to bring along....
  • Sewing Machine and threads
  • Small A6 Notebook
  • Silk fabric and scraps
  • Sequins, beads, glitter
  • Bondaweb
  • Sewing kit
In typical fashion we took along far too much from our craft stash (!), but it did mean that we had lots to choose from. Jane also provided lots of lovely threads, fabrics and embellishments for us to choose from. The aim of this course was to 'make stitched textile books using sumptuous fabric, threads, sequins and beads'. Here's some of what we did....

Started off by laying bondaweb onto a silk fabric base, then embellishing with fabric scraps, mesh, sequins, angellina thread etc. These were 'sandwiched' into place with an organza fabric and then ironed together.
Using free motion machine embroidery all over, then highlighting specific areas with contrasting thread....
We then added a back, trimmed to size and stitched around the edges to create our finished notebook covers. Jane also showed us a great technique to create a cord by twisting and stitching different threads!
We even had time left to try another piece each!
Here are the fab pieces that our group created!
We had a lovely day on this course and it was great to be able to learn new techniques and put these into practice by creating notebook covers. Jane was the BEST tutor and we'd highly recommend going along to one of her courses if you get a chance! We've certainly been inspired and can't wait to make some more at home!

  1. When I saw your book covers I knew you had to be UK based, you make these the same way I make my covers (as taught when I still lived in Marlborough, England), now I live in the States but haven't found anyone working with textiles in the same way. Your covers are looking great :D

  3. Good Evening to you, I love the stitched textile books you have made and I have bookmarked this page as after Christmas I am going to give these a go. They remind me of the books you can buy in India which are embellished with beautiful beads and sequins and as my daughter lives in India, it would be nice to give her an English made book, but which would remind her of India.
Thank you so much for showing us how to make them.
I have enjoyed my visit and I have become a new follower.
    Best Wishes to you,
    Daphne

  6. Your books are gorgeous. I am going to try and see if I can make something, just for myself. I doubt it will turn out as beautifully.
