Tips, Tools & Techniques - Homemade Rhubarb Vodka

Hello! Here's our regular feature where we share tips, tools & techniques that have caught our eye, things we have Pinned, and things we have tried. These are probably not going to change your life(!) but might make it a bit easier...

I actually made this vodka last year, but seeing the rhubarb growing in the garden made me think of making some more!

I made the rhubarb vodka by following this is a great recipe shared by Very Berry Handmade

Ingredients
  • 1 litre vodka
  • 600g rhubarb
  • 300g caster sugar
Wash, trim and chop your rhubarb.
Mix your rhubarb, sugar and vodka and add to a sealed jar - stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
You then have to be patient and wait for between 6 weeks and 6 months, shaking the jars occasionally to mix everything together.
Once you can wait no more... strain, pour into bottles and drink. Cheers!!
This will carry on maturing in the bottle for a few months and I keep mine in the freezer, so it's nicely chilled!
If you use younger rhubarb, then it will turn out a lovely pinky colour. Mine was a lot more yellow, but tastes delicious! I also made extra to give in small bottles for Christmas pressies, which went down well!
I'm now thinking of other ideas to flavour spirits....  The first of my chilli's have come out, so perhaps chilli vodka? We'd love to hear what flavoured spirits you'd recommend!!

Already have elderflower gin stewing and always collect sloes come autumn which Ive used with both gin and vodka.
If you can bear to hang on till the following year and use that previous years liquid with fresh fruit...........you get a smashing liqueur : )
