... and a Handmade Wedding Ring Pillow

My friends Eleanor & John got married last weekend, and it was an amazing day. The whole wedding was meticulously planned out by the the couple (the bride mainly!!) and there were lots of handmade touches that made it really special. My contribution was a wedding ring pillow that Eleanor requested - "not too traditional, or bridal - and colourful to fit in with the rest of the theme". This is what I came up with:

I found this bit of linen with a lacey trim in the remnants bin of a fabric shop. Its meant to be an arm cover for a seat?! Hmmm
I decided to cut it so that the square pillow would be 8X8 inches and would be half plain and half trim.
Eleanor wanted colour, and I knew her mum loves cross stitch so I decided to embroider their intials onto the plain part. I used water soluble canvas for this to guide my stitches.
I created a patchwork strip of scraps in the colours of the wedding, and placed them under the trim, and made two strips of binding for the edges.
After turning out, and top stitching the "binding" to the edges:
I added stuffing, a ribbon for the rings, and hand stitched the bottom.
Here it is on the table at the ceremony!
These were our individual favours - see the lovely colours and handmade feel throughout?

Eleanor and John were really pleased with the result, and luckily it fit well with the whole wedding theme!
Have you been asked to make anything for a friend's wedding? I was proud to be involved!

  1. Pretty and very special, I made my sister's wedding dress 30 years ago, and another for a friend just afterwards.
