... and a Magazine Scraps Chameleon Card

Time for a kiddie craft post - one that uses up bits of old magazines you may have lying around... Me and Mally made this for Sian's birthday at the weekend:

This project couldn't be simpler. First draw (or trace/print etc) a design onto your chosen card (here's a tip - if you have more time, you may want to make sure your drawing is better than this one!!!!). We chose a chameleon becuse we wanted to use bright colours.
Next, cut out the main body part using a craft knife. The piece you cut out can be used for another card or project!
Cut some coloured strips from a magazine. Up to you how complementary you want these to be! Roughly trace the outline of your cut-out onto the insert piece (that goes inside the card) - this bit can be done by even the smallest of kids!
Stick the strips down so that they cover over the edges of your outline - other than this, it doesn't have to be neat - again, brilliant for small kids!
Stick the insert inside the card - we used spray glue for time reasons - but I wish we hadn't as my new glue was messy and stringy...
Go over the outline and detail parts in pen, add a border and you're done!! (see though: smudges from the glue - oh well!!)
Its not the most sophisticated of projects but Me and Mally had fun doing it and Sian loved it (well she would have to say that wouldn't she?!!). What other animals / shapes could we try?!

  2. It looks great. Tortoise might be a good one for the shell, or a parrot, or a butterfly. Really fun.

  4. Love this little guy. And all the colors in the magazine strips makes him look like he's changing colors. You've been featured on Gingerly Made today.

  5. That is SO cool! You could do a heart ... or outlines of famous landmarks ... or their individual initials ... this is one of those crafts that would work for a wide range of ages!
