Tips, Tools and Techniques - Homemade Glue

Hello! Here's our regular feature where we share tips, tools & techniques that have caught our eye, things we have Pinned, and things we have tried. These are probably not going to change your life(!) but might make it a bit easier...
I have seen pins on Pinterest for a while now about making your own version of glues, including types of homemade Mod Podge.... so thought it was about time to give it a go! The 'recipe' I tried was based on this post by Ways & How
Start by mixing your ingredients in a saucepan: 1 cup water, 1.5 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp oil and heat on a medium heat.
Stir regularly and simmer for about 10-15mins (but make sure you don't let it boil!). At this stage you can change the consistency by adding more water (or flour to thicken). I added more water as it seemed to be quite thick!
Now I don't know if I did something wrong along the way, but my mixture seemed a bit lumpy... so I sieved it. I made plenty of mess, but it did the trick!!
Let the mixture cool down and pour into a suitable container e.g. jam jar.
And there you have your own budget glue ready to use! Have you tried any other recipes to make your own glue?

  1. Can I ask why make your own glue when glue is so cheap?
