... and a Knitting Basket Makeover!

I found a great basket during one of my many occasional charity shop visits and have been using it to store my knitting supplies! Although it's very functional, it's not that pretty... so time for a makeover!

The inside of the basket is a bit 'scratchy' so to make a lining I cut two rectangles each of 50 x 40cm from my fabric (taken from old pyjamas!). As it will be the inside of the basket on view, I made a sort of inside out drawstring bag, by folding over and sewing the top to make a large hem (3 cm).

I then sewed the two pieces (right sides together) along the bottom and up either side. The top is designed to fold over the top of the basket, so I stopped sewing at the bottom of the hem. [My Pincushion Boat is being put to good use too!]

Next I threaded some green and yellow wool through the hem and tied by each of the basket handles.

To add a bit more decoration, I wove the same wool around the centre and on the top of the handle.

So I still have a handy knitting basket... but now it is a little bit more colourful!!

Also as an added bonus, you can take the lining out of the basket, turn it inside out it becomes a drawstring bag for on the move!

I've also realised that considering that I don't knit that often I've got plenty of wool.... so it's a good job I've got by Denim Knitting Bag as well!! What do you use to store your knitting supplies?
