... and a T-Shirt Beach Bag

A girl can never have too many bags right?! So when I saw this great tutorial by Delia Creates to upcycle a T-Shirt into a bag, I definitely had to give it a go!

Materials
  • Old T-Shirt
  • Rotary cutter or scissors
  • Sewing materials
First you need to find an old or unwanted T-shirt - this is one I'd already chopped the sleeve off to use the fabric for another project!
Next turn your T-shirt inside out and fold in half. Mark out and cut a bag shape.
Open out, pin and sew all the way around the edge with a seam allowance. I found this a bit tricky as the T-shirt material I used was quite stretchy. However, it won't show on the outside of the bag, so there's room for a bit of error!
Still with your T-shirt inside out, cut some slits through both layers. I chose to do horizontal cuts of approx 2 cm with a rotary cutter, with a gap of 3 cm between each line.
You will need to stop cutting your slits approx 10cm from the top so that you can shape the top of the bag and cut a handle.
Turn it back out, give it a good stretch and there you have a finished bag!
I think it would make a great lightweight bag to take on holiday to the beach. Although, mine came in very handy for a trip to the less exotic location of the local park!!
There are loads of variations you could make using different colours, sizes and styles of T-shirt and of course are easily washable. What would you use yours for?!

    I make some VERY similar a while back out of the bottom part of jersey pajama bottoms...I use mine as a produce bag so I don't have all those plastic bags that I am throwing away!
