... and a Felt Needle Case

June is busy month for family and friend's birthdays, so I have been using it as a good excuse to spend time looking on Pinterest for inspiration! My brother's girlfriend, Alice enjoys crafting so I decided that a little needle case may come in handy, especially for while on the move.

Here's what you'll need if you want to make your own version....

Materials
  • Felt pieces
  • Ribbon
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Decoration
Choose a selection of felt in contrasting colours, along with ribbon or twine to tie up the case.
Cut two pieces of 8 x 12cm felt for the outside and inside cover, along with a smaller piece of 6 x 10cm for the insert.
Fold the inside cover in half and sew the insert down this line. Then decorate the front cover as desired! I decided on an owl design by sewing together pieces of felt and embellishing with needle felting
Next sew a piece of ribbon each side of the inside piece. Don't worry about making it too neat as it will be hidden by the outside piece.... well that's my excuse anyway!!
Finish by sewing the inside and outside covers together using a blanket stitch.

As this is a mini needle case, it didn't need any padding between the layers. But if you were making a larger case, I think it would be good to add some cardboard etc to give a bit more structure (for example Felt Travel Sewing Kit).
Hopefully Alice will find this handy and I think I'm going to have to make myself one as well!!
