... and an #imapiece Stitching Event!

The #imapiece Craftivist Jigsaw project is to create a giant jigsaw embroidered with provocative messages to support Save the Children's Race Against Hunger Campaign.  The project will create an art installation to raise awareness of the issues of world hunger and injustice.  To read more about this campaign, click here.

When we heard that an event was due to run at RISC & Global Cafe in Reading, we jumped at the chance to join in.  It was hosted by Little Stitch (aka Rachel!) who very generously provided us all with a selection of fabric jigsaw pieces and embroidery thread to use.

The messages/quotes we chose ...

"Be kind wherever possible..."
"If we all lend a hand we can each lift a heart"
"Compassion, Moderation, Humility"

After writing our text on the piece, we set about embroidering.....

It was lovely to meet and chat with fellow crafters at the same time as contributing to such a great campaign.

We just about managed to finish in time, having got a bit carried away with the chatting & drinking coffee part!!

All our finished pieces will now be sent to our local MP....

David Cameron has announced that he will lead the way in the Race Against Hunger.  Save the Children want him to use his G8 presidency in 2013 to set ambitious plans to tackle huner and save millions of children's lives.  Every year, 2.3 million children die because they don't get enough of the right food.  So for more information and to sign the petition please click here.

We would strongly recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to take part in one of these events, or if not by making your own #imapiece at home.  Thanks again to the lovely Rachel for organising...a great time was had by all!!
