... and Christmas Heart Decorations

Seeing as it’s now less than 4 weeks to Christmas, I thought I’d get into the spirit and make a start on decorations!

So here’s what I did to make this Christmas heart decoration....

I chose suitably festive colours of red and green using materials I already had from my charity shop finds. The fabric was from an old red scarf and a green napkin :)

I started by creating a paper heart template of approx 10x10cm.  It’s handy to keep this template for making more in the future!  Then I pinned the template to both bits of fabric & cut around to give two same sized pieces (don't worry if it looks a bit rough - this will be taken care of later).

I decided at this stage to sew on my ribbon and button on the front side.  This way the ribbon will be on the inside of your finished heart and the button can cover up any stitches that may show on the outside.

Next was to pin and sew the two sections together, leaving a small border around the outside.  Make sure to leave a bit of a gap at the bottom to add the stuffing before sewing closed.  I used cotton wool as stuffing and also added a few drop of cinnamon oil to it, just to add to the Christmas feel!

To make the edges look prettier, I got out the pinking shears and.... Ta da!

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out and think it would look lovely hanging on the tree, or anywhere else around the house.  I’ll now be looking at the rest of my fabric scraps to see what other versions I can make!

  1. Those are darling. Just a thought what about adding a button to the back side that way it can go on either side or twirl and not see any stitches too. Just a thought........ I do love all the things you come up with, I could spend days bouncing around your blog.
    Hugs,
