... and a Denim Storage Basket

I am a sucker for a storage basket or tin, even if it's just so that I can kid myself that I'm being organised!! So I decided to make another - this time upcycled from the leg of a pair of jeans!

This is a really simple process and requires minimal sewing... Start with an old pair of jeans and cut a section from the bottom of one leg (mine was 20cm long).
Turn inside out and sew straight along the bottom (the opposite end to the existing seam). To create a box finish, fold each ends over and sew across to give a triangle shape.
When you turn it back the right way, this will give a flat bottom and more of a basket shape.
Fold over the top seam and then decorate to your hearts content!
I used a wide ribbon and bow, which I had saved from some gift wrapping. Then added a lace trim to add to the 80's effect with the stonewashed denim!!
I'm using this for my fabric scraps and the squishy edges mean I can squeeze plenty in! As this was so quick to make, I think I'm going to make a couple more - perhaps for make up storage. What would you use yours for?

  9. This is exactly the tutorial I could use. I was just wondering what to do with a pair of jeans that I bought in the wrong size and forgot all about until recently. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Del! The beauty of this is that you only use part of one leg, so there's plenty of denim left for other projects!! x

  17. I love this idea...so simple and easy to make. Did you just glue your ribbon on or did you sew it on?

    1. Thanks Erlene! I glued the ribbon to itself rather than onto the denim... that way it can be taken off if I fancy changing it! x
